Chicago, IL	Licensing as a massage therapist	500 hours of massage training required from a state-approved school and a membership in a major professional association, such as AMTA. Further requirements: VD and TB tests. Must work for an establishment with an establishment license. Must provide separate facilities of showers and changing rooms for males and females. Board of Health, Building Inspector, and Fire Department representatives pay surprise periodic visits to the establishment. The total cost of licensing is $600 per year.)
Colorado Springs, CO	Licensing as a massage therapist	Massage training required. Further requirements: posting of license, the wearing of a white lab coat, surprise walk-in inspections by the sheriff's department.
Denver, CO	Licensing as a massage therapist	1000 hours of massage training required

An additional special "home call" license can be required for that service in each city. Some cities in LA and Orange counties require VD and AIDS testing.
Sacramento, CA	Adult entertainment law (City law enacted in 1988 following the advertising of "reflexology" services by, what vice officers discovered to be were, houses of prostitution.)	Massage training required. Business location required to be 1,000 yards from schools and bars (similar to municipality laws for pornographic book stores.)
San Diego, CA	Licensed to touch Licensed as a health practitioner	110 hours of massage training / city testing required. 1000 hours of massage training / city testing required. $1300 per year fee
* Exemption from massage laws is typically granted to those licensed for cosmetology and medicine.
